The Philadelphia 76ers were not too active in free agency as they focused mostly on bringing in some big men depth and they also were able to re-sign their own free agents.
One of those free agents was Furkan Korkmaz who has had himself an up-and-down career in Philadelphia, but he did end up returning on a 3-year deal. The Sixers are still counting on him to be a source of shooting and scoring off their bench so they had to bring him back.
Korkmaz averaged 9.1 points and he shot 37.5% from deep in the 2020-21 season and he has found himself a home in the NBA. He is settled in Philadelphia and he is happy about where he is at.
“Yeah, but this isn’t about the contract,” he said at training camp on Wednesday. “I was saying this last year too, before I get the contract because I’ve been here for four years. All those four years was different. A different system, different players, we were keeping the same players, but it was like totally different systems, but now I can definitely say that I’m at home. We got to end this journey really good.”
By ending this journey what Korkmaz would describe as “good”, it means that he wants to win a championship. After coming up short as the No. 1 seed in the 2021 playoffs, they want to finish the job in this upcoming season.
“I’ve been through a lot of things, and as an organization, we’ve been through a lot of things, not just me personally,” he continued. “We had a lot of with changing trying to get a championship every year, but different ways, but right now, we’re at the point that we should go get it this year. This should be our year.”
The Sixers had a chance in Game 7, but they let that one slip away after faltering late. Now, they must get back at it and try again to win this upcoming season.
“We were saying the same thing for last year which we lost it by like a point, one or two points, two points difference but I think,” Korkmaz finished. “Personally, I’m here to win after all those years I spent here. As long as we are winning, we are good. It doesn’t matter how we look.”
