Kevin King’s unexpected absence during Sunday night’s win over the San Francisco 49ers now has an explanation.
While the Green Bay Packers originally ruled out King due to an illness, coach Matt LaFleur confirmed on Wednesday the team has since determined King suffered a concussion at some point and is now in the league’s protocol, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
LaFleur said King didn’t feel well pre-game, and the team only diagnosed the concussion after returning to Green Bay on Monday.
King wasn’t on the field for practice on Wednesday and will be listed on the initial injury report of Week 4.
King started each of the Packers’ first two games, playing 112 defensive snaps. He is a preferred starter when healthy.
King must progress through the concussion protocol before returning to the field. Against the 49ers, the Packers started rookie Eric Stokes in place of King at cornerback.
