Kyrie Irving addresses his playing status entering new season

“As of right now just please respect my privacy.”

Kyrie Irving was not able to physically attend Media Day, but he made his presence known via Zoom. The Nets guard, who averaged 26.9 PPG and 6 APG last season, is on edge right now regarding his eligibility to play in games this year. With rumors speculating that the 29-year-old has yet to be vaccinated, Irving is currently not eligible to play in 41 home games this season. When asked about it, here is what he had to say:

“I would like to keep that stuff private. I’m a human being first and obviously just living in this public sphere is just a lot of questions on what’s going on in the world of Kyrie. I would love to just keep that private and handle it the right way with my team and go forward together with a plan — Please just respect my privacy. All the questions kind of leading into what’s happening, you know, please everything will be released at a due date once we get this cleared up. But as of right now just please respect my privacy. Regarding anything. Regarding home games, what’s happening, vaccination … please.”

Irving did make sure to reassure the organization and the rest of his teammates regarding his availability for the season. “I know that I’ll be there everyday no matter what,”’ Irving said. “I know that the focus has to be on an all-time high. No distractions.”
