It’s easy to overreact to what happens in the first three games of a season, but when it comes to Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams, they look every bit like MVP and Super Bowl contenders, respectively. At 3-0 with one of the league’s best offenses, the Rams might be the team to beat – and Stafford could be the frontrunner for NFL MVP.
With four more touchdown passes on Sunday against the Buccaneers, Stafford almost doubled his season total. He now has nine on the year, ranking among the league leaders. He tied a franchise record with nine scores through just three games, matching Kurt Warner’s mark from 1999.
Rams fans don’t have to dig deep in their memory bank to remember what happened that year. Warner won MVP and the Rams hoisted the Lombardi Trophy as Super Bowl XXXIV champions.
