No. 12 Florida (3-1, 1-1 SEC) defeated Tennessee (2-2, 0-1 SEC), 38-14, Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Florida led, 17-14, at halftime.
The Gators outscored Tennessee, 21-0, in the second half. The Vols totaled 162 yards in the second half (92 passing, 70 rushing).
Following the game, first-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed his team’s performance.
“Extremely disappointing that the second half unfolded the way that it did,” Heupel said. “We competed and we responded extremely well in the first half – all three phases of the game. I thought, opportunity in the second half, didn’t take advantage of certain opportunities and didn’t play smart football down the stretch.
“Not a question of wanting to as we came out of the tunnel for the second half, but obviously not good enough to cut it or smart enough competitors to go play the way that we needed to as a good football team.”
