With the 2021-22 season beginning in about a month, it is time to assemble rankings for the best players in the NBA. They will prompt plenty of debate and disagreement, but putting together the list signals a new season in the league.
Up first on the list for the Philadelphia 76ers is their sharpshooting guard. The team acquired Seth Curry on draft night in 2020 to help space the floor for Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons to operate. He did just that as he shot 45% from deep and he followed that by shooting 50.6% from deep in the playoffs.
He tied his career high by averaging 2.7 assists and he put the ball on the floor a bit more showing off some versatility. As he enters the 2021-22 season, Curry comes in ranked as the 81st best player in the league by Sports Illustrated:
Curry is widely regarded for his three-point shooting prowess, but he also continues to assert himself as a solid playmaker for the Sixers. Last year, his 2.7 assists per game were tied for the highest mark in his career. While Ben Simmons’s future with Philadelphia has created some questions as to what the franchise’s backcourt will look like long-term, Curry would appear to be a seamless fit next to whoever else is on the court with him.
Curry definitely greatly benefited from playing next to Simmons. Once Simmons gets traded, there will be even more pressure on Curry to produce. He will be looked at as the team’s main ballhandler as well as trying to space the floor for Embiid and get others involved.
The sharpshooter had himself a terrific first season in Philadelphia, but he will probably have to do even more in his second season with the team.
