Penn State coach James Franklin was a special guest on the set of College GameDay with ESPN’s signature pregame show broadcasting live from Old Main this morning. And as much as the GameDay staff would have loved to broach the topic of Franklin and his ties to the USC coaching vacancy, the conversations stuck strictly to tonight’s matchup with the Auburn Tigers.
One of the first questions posed to Franklin from Kirk Herbstreit focused on the play of quarterback Sean Clifford under new offensive coordinator Mike Yurich. And Franklin had some compliments to share about his starting quarterback while suggesting he’s ready to see things go up another level (possibly tonight).
Coming into the game, Auburn has been lighting up the scoreboard in the first two weeks of the season, but Penn State has been the more tested team so far. Desmond Howard was curious what Franklin has learned about his team so far after a tough win at Wisconsin in Week 1 and last week against Ball State.
Before Franklin was done, his daughter Shola, brought out a delicious treat for the GameDay crew and delivered it straight to an appreciative Howard.
