Purdue will be missing a key part of its support team when the Boilermakers face Notre Dame on Saturday.
The World’s Largest Drum should apparently be called the World’s Too Largest Drum for the Notre Dame Stadium Tunnel, because that’s the case, which means the team won’t have it on the sidelines for the first time in over four decades.
“Notre Dame Athletics has restricted use of their main tunnel to their own football team and band, which is the only entrance large enough for the Drum,” school spokesperson Aaron Yoder told ESPN. “We have been told that visiting teams and bands have to use a separate tunnel that is much smaller.”
With the drum completely absent, I figured I’d go down and rabbit hole and deliver some fun facts about the instrument, since that’s what I did when I heard the news:
