When it comes to seeing improvement on the court, Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley believes the formula is simple: To get into the gym and work hard every day.
That is the biggest piece of advice the first-year head coach is passing along to his new players. Mosley believes the work done in the gym will have a direct correlation to wins on the court, and that begins by improving every day.
One of the newest Magic players is seemingly taking that message to heart.
Jalen Suggs, who was the fifth overall pick, was recently commended by Mosley for his willingness to improve on a daily basis during an appearance on “The Jump” with Richard Jefferson and Kendrick Perkins. Mosley believes that is the key to the Magic getting better every day.
Jalen is one of those guys that is going to continue to push himself. My job is just to continue to empower him, as well as the rest of our guys to put in the work and get better every single day. I’m going to keep saying it: Doing that work, doing that work. I think that is the only way to improve. I think that the only way you can accomplish any goals you set out for yourself is by walking into the gym daily and trying to work yourself to get better.
The organization caught a bit of a break when Suggs fell to them at No. 5. In just a short time with the Magic, Suggs has brought leadership to the roster and appears to be every bit of a franchise-changing player after a strong showing in the Las Vegas Summer League.
The Magic enter the season as the third-youngest team in the NBA as they build toward the future. Certainly, the wins and losses may not necessarily be there this season, but the habits they develop now will ensure a bright future ahead in Orlando.
