NBC Sports’ Mike Florio first reported that New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore will undergo reparative thumb surgery following Sunday’s big win over the Green Bay Packers, which was confirmed by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Rapoport adds that the Saints will consider Lattimore to be “week-to-week” to play during recovery, which honestly is a best-case scenario for someone going under the knife this early in the year.
Lattimore went into the game with a knee issue but passed pregame testing to get cleared to play. He injured his hand competing with Davante Adams for a reception just before halftime, and missed the opening drive in the third quarter while having a medical cast applied. He then played through the injury until the Saints pulled some starters once things got out of hand. And after the game, Lattimore agreed to a five-year contract extension.
So we’ll consider him questionable to play next week against the Carolina Panthers, maybe doubtful. Paulson Adebo played really well in his rookie debut (even picking off Aaron Rodgers at a critical point) and Bradley Roby will be allowed to join the team and practice on Monday, so the Saints can get by while Lattimore is on the mend. And from the sounds of it, he’ll be back sooner rather than later.
