Shaedon Sharpe, the No. 1 recruit in the high school class of 2022, announced on Tuesday he has committed to play at the University of Kentucky.
The commitment of Sharpe will give Wildcats head coach John Calipari his first top-ranked recruit since Skal Labissiere in 2015. Sharpe chose Kentucky over Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas among others.
He was also said to be considering the NBA G League Ignite.
Sharpe, who was born in Ontario, averaged 21.4 points, six rebounds and three assists last season as a junior at Dream City Christian in Glendale, Arizona. He helped Canada earn the silver medal in the 2019 FIBA U16 Americas Championship, averaging 13 points per game.

The Wildcats are also thought to be in the running to land other top high school prospects in 2022, such as Dereck Lively II, Cason Wallace and Adem Bona. Sharpe committing to Kentucky could help the program land those recruits, as well.
The program has already received a commitment from Skyy Clark.
Sharpe cited the player development program at Kentucky as a major driving force in joining the Wildcats as Calipari has helped send dozens to the NBA. Now, he could be the next in line to make a similar jump from Lexington to the league.
