The Boston Celtics have hired Jarell Christian to be the next head coach of their G League developmental affiliate, the (Portland) Maine Celtics (formerly, the Maine Red Claws) according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
The new G League coach was most recently an assistant coach with the Washington Wizards between 2019 and 2021, and joins a rebranded, rebooted Celtics developmental team that took that 2020-21 G League season off as a result of the pandemic. Christian, 35, has previous G League head coaching experience with the Capital City Go Gos, the Wizards G League affiliate, which he coached for a season before joining the Wizards’ staff as an assistant.
Prior to that, the Virginia native served as an assistant with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s developmental team, the Blue.
