Jets QB Mike White will be Zach Wilson’s backup

Mike White has never attempted a regular season pass. The Jets QB will be Zach Wilson’s backup.

The Jets have picked their backup quarterback.

After releasing veteran Josh Johnson on Tuesday, the Jets will go with Mike White as Zach Wilson’s backup, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. White fought for the job with James Morgan all summer and it appears his preseason performances were enough to beat the Jets’ 2020 fourth-rounder.

The 26-year-old White has never attempted a regular season pass. The Cowboys picked him in the fifth round of the 2018 draft. He signed with the Jets in 2019 and bounced between the practice squad and active roster for two seasons.

White went 20-28 for 166 yards in two preseason games this summer before missing the Jets’ exhibition finale against the Eagles with an injury. Now he will be Wilson’s primary backup unless the Jets decide to add someone else before the regular season.
