A look back at Tennessee’s 2015 win over Bowling Green

A look back at Tennessee’s 2015 win over Bowling Green.

Throughout its tradition-rich football history, the University of Tennessee football program has captured some monumental victories.

This season, each week, Vols Wire will look back at one of Tennessee’s most memorable wins against its upcoming opponents.

The Volunteers will open the 2021 season Thursday night against Bowling Green at Neyland Stadium.

Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. EDT and the game will be televised on SEC Network.

This installment will revisit UT’s win over Bowling Green on Sept. 5, 2015. It was the season opener for both schools.

Thursday’s contest will represent the second meeting between the Volunteers and Falcons. The series dates back to 2015 when the Vols defeated Bowling Green, 59-30, win at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

In that game, Tennessee’s offense would be potent and balanced as quarterback Joshua Dobbs was 15-of-22 for 205 yards and two touchdowns. He would also score on a 16-yard run.

Tight end Ethan Wolf was on the receiving end of both of Dobbs’ scoring strikes and Jalen Hurd would have touchdown runs of 8, 1 and 13 yards for the Vols, who fell behind 3-0 when the Falcons’ Tyler Tate made a field goal in the first quarter.

The Vols would score 21 unanswered points to close out the opening frame.

Bowling Green pulled to within 21-20 on another field goal by Tate in the second quarter before the Vols scored two touchdowns to end the first half.

Alvin Kamara totaled 144 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries for Tennessee.
