Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler discusses Joe Milton in Josh Heupel’s offense

Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler discusses Joe Milton in Josh Heupel’s offense.

Bowling Green will travel to Tennessee Thursday to kick off the 2021 season.

Kickoff between the Vols and Falcons is slated for 8 p.m. EDT. SEC Network will televise the matchup.

Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler met with media Monday ahead of playing at Tennessee.

Loeffler discussed Vols’ head coach Josh Heupel’s offensive scheme.

“I think their offensive system is awesome,” Loeffler said of Heupel’s offense. “I think they do a great job. The misconception is that they throw the ball all over the yard, they really don’t. They spread you out. They run the football. They force you to make tackles in space. They’re extremely quick, extremely fast.

“I think Josh and that crew will get Tennessee back to their standards and expectations, there’s no doubt. They’re good coaches.”

Heupel named Michigan transfer Joe Milton III as Tennessee’s starting quarterback against Bowling Green.

“We’ve watched Joe quite a bit,” Loeffler said of Milton III. “We study Michigan quite a bit, as well as we do Ohio State. I know I am excited to see Joe go out there and play. Really excited for him.”

Loeffler mentioned he was not supposed Milton III was named Tennessee’s starting quarterback.

“I think he is a really good football player,” Loeffler said of Milton III. “I think he fits well into Josh’s system. He is a big, strong guy that is extremely physical, big arm, and I remember Joe coming out in high school, and I think he, really with age, has really improved.

“It is going to be exciting to watch him in this offense. I think he’ll do a great job. He is a good kid and I think he fits well in that system.”
