To pass the time until the 2021-22 NBA season begins, Sixers Wire is looking back at some of the best moments in the Philadelphia 76ers’ playoff history. Many legends have passed through this city and organization, and we are going to highlight some of their bigger moments.
This edition goes back to the 2005 NBA playoffs, when the seventh-seeded Sixers took on the second-seeded Detroit Pistons, the defending champion. With the series shifting to Philadelphia and the Sixers down 0-2 in the series, they needed their MVP leader to step up.
Allen Iverson looked the vaunted Pistons dead in the eye and dropped 37 points on 15-for-26 shooting to go along with 15 assists in a 115-104 win in Game 3. Iverson was too much for Detroit to handle as former coach Larry Brown was grasping at straws for answers.
Detroit won the next two games to eliminate the Sixers in five games, but Iverson averaged 31.2 points and 10.0 assists in the series. Philadelphia was in a tough matchup against the veteran Pistons; they relied on rookie Andre Iguodala and younger pieces such as Kyle Korver and Samuel Dalembert next to Iverson.
