Rockets to continue offseason tradition of Bahamas workouts

Houston’s tradition of workouts in The Bahamas prior to training camp, which began during the James Harden era, is being brought back.

The recent Houston Rockets tradition of team workouts in The Bahamas prior to training camp, which began during the James Harden era, is being brought back for the Jalen Green era.

Veteran forward Danuel House Jr., who is one of only two remaining players (along with Eric Gordon) from the Harden-era playoff teams, explained the rationale to Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston.

In a new interview, House tells Berman:

It’s just a fun time. Guys are getting together. It’s that time of year again.

It’s real important off the court. It just gives us time to bond with one another, other than basketball. Once you build a relationship off the court, on the court, teamwork makes the dream work. It teaches us how to respond to one another. It teaches teamwork, chemistry, everything.

I’m looking forward to it. Last year on the deal, go in and just be the best me that I can possibly be. So it’s going to help me, a lot.

The team Bahamas trip prior to training camp occurred in 2017, 2018, and 2019, but it was scrapped in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Known for his athleticism, long-range shooting, and defensive versatility, House has averaged 9.2 points (36.4% on 3-pointers) and 3.8 rebounds in 26.1 minutes per game during three seasons with the Rockets. Now 28 years old, he’s entering the final season of his current contract.
