Ex-Lions DE Everson Griffen returns to the Vikings

Griffen finished second on the Lions in sacks in 2020 after being acquired in a trade from the Cowboys

Former Lions pass rusher Everson Griffen is heading back to the Minnesota Vikings. The free agent DE is signing with Detroit’s NFC North rival after working out for the Vikings late last week.

Griffen had a brief tenure with the Lions. In October, Detroit traded a conditional 2021 draft pick to the Dallas Cowboys to acquire Griffen, then 32. The pick became a 6th rounder, and the Cowboys used it (No. 192 overall) on Kentucky defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna.

In seven games with Detroit, Griffen logged 13 total tackles and 3.5 sacks. The sack total wound up being second on the team behind Romeo Okwara’s 10. Griffen spent his first 10 seasons (2010-2019) with the Vikings and made the Pro Bowl in four of his last five years in Minnesota.
