Jalen Ramsey was an absolute star in his first full season with the Rams, thriving in Brandon Staley’s defense last year. He called Staley the best coordinator he’s had, but Raheem Morris has Ramsey beaming ahead of the 2021 season.
Ramsey recently said he’s had his best camp yet, crediting Morris for helping him get even better by teaching him about offensive concepts and different techniques. And when it comes to his role on defense, Ramsey can’t wait to show off what he can do this season.
In an interview on NFL Network during Rams-Raiders, Ramsey was asked about how excited he is for what he’ll be doing in Morris’ defense.
“I love it. This is one of the first times in my career I’m truly, truly about to be able to show the world who I really am in all different aspects of the game, so I’m super excited,” Ramsey said with a big smile. “He’s taught me so much about the game, about the offense and concepts and how they think on that side, too, so I’m super excited. I’ve still got a lot of growing to do, honestly. But I’m excited. I’m about to unleash this year. I’m ready. It’s going to unfold perfectly.”
Ramsey moved around the secondary a decent amount last year, playing outside and in the slot, depending on the opponent. He also shadowed elite receivers when the Rams’ opponent had one, ranging from DK Metcalf to DeAndre Hopkins.
It’s hard to imagine Ramsey being better than he was a season ago, but he has high expectations for himself this year. And based on the way he’s been talking, he’s going to do a lot of different things on defense for the Rams.
