[autotag]Miesha Tate[/autotag]’s comeback will kick into high gear with a main event for her next outing.
Tate (19-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC), a former UFC women’s bantamweight champion, is slated to clash with [autotag]Ketlen Vieira[/autotag] (11-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) in the headliner at UFC Fight Night on Oct. 16.
MMA Junkie verified with a person close to the booking that verbal agreements for the bout are in place. The person requested anonymity because the UFC has yet to make an official announcement. Combate first reported the news.
Tate, 35, ended a five-year retirement in July when she outworked Marion Reneau to a unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 26. “Cupcake” won the title in 2016 when she submitted Holly Holm, but lost it shortly thereafter to Amanda Nunes, who still holds the throne to this day.
If Tate wants to get back to a rematch with Nunes, she’ll have to go through a dangerous Brazilian in Vieira, 29, who has alternated losses and wins over her past four bouts. She’s coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Yana Kunitskaya at UFC Fight Night 185 in February.
The latest UFC Fight Night lineup now includes:
- Ketlen Vieira vs. Miesha Tate
- Ludovit Klein vs. Nate Landwehr
- Luana Carolina vs. Maryna Moroz
- Andrei Arlovski vs. Carlos Felipe
- Norma Dumont vs. Holly Holm
- Ariane Carnelossi vs. Istela Nunes
- Julian Marquez vs. Jordan Wright
