The Jets-Packers preseason match this week will get a bit personal with Matt LaFleur coaching Green Bay and Mike LaFleur coaching New York’s offense.
With the brothers set to square off, the rest of the LaFleur family is heading to Green Bay, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette’s Ryan Wood.
This isn’t the first time the LaFleurs have coached in a game together – both as coworkers and as adversaries. The two worked under Kyle Shanahan with the Falcons from 2015-2016, with Matt serving as the quarterbacks coach and Mike as an offensive assistant. Then they coached against each other in 2017 and 2019 when Mike was in San Francisco and Matt was with the Rams (2017) and then the Packers (2019).
The coaching staff connections don’t stop with the LaFleurs. Matt has been close friends with Robert Saleh since their days at Central Michigan and with the Texans. LaFleur has planned a night out for both coaching staffs once the Jets arrive in Green Bay for their joint practices on August 18 and 19.
The two teams and friendly coaching staffs will then play their preseason Week 2 game on August 21.
