The Bengals won’t play a few key members of the roster during Week 1 of the preseason.

Those hoping to see Joe Burrow during a Cincinnati Bengals preseason game this summer will have to wait for the second or third exhibition.

Thursday, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced a trio of healthy scratches who won’t be suiting up for the team during Saturday’s preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

  • QB Joe Burrow
  • C Trey Hopkins
  • DL Larry Ogunjobi

Call it disappointing and understandable on all fronts. Burrow is more comfortable than ever but might not play at all this preseason. Hopkins is all the way back from his injury but won’t be risked during a meaningless game. And Ogunjobi just got over a nagging injury before terrorizing Burrow and the offense in practice.

More inactives will be announced before the game, though nothing as noteworthy. And the game itself could get moved thanks to an upcoming tropical storm.
