Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 10 of training camp

The #Chiefs were missing nearly a dozen players to start Sunday’s practice and lost three more to injury/illness during practice. More here:

The Kansas City Chiefs were back on the practice fields at Missouri Western State University on Sunday. The pads were back on after a day of helmets and shells on Friday and an off day on Saturday. Unfortunately, the team wasn’t outside long due to lightning in the area, moving indoors for the remainder of Sunday’s practice.

Chad Williams made a return to practice after a groin injury had kept him out for several days. DeAndre Baker, Juan Thornhill, Anthony Hitchens and Ben Niemann continued to get work in, slowly working their way back from injury. It’s good to see no setbacks for all of those players.

In total, 11 Chiefs players appeared to be missing from action to start practice on Sunday. Nick Keizer (back), Antonio Callaway (bone bruise), and Prince Tega Wanogho were not at practice. Darryl Williams was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday and not at practice.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (hand), Willie Gay Jr. (concussion), Alex Okafor (Hamstring), Mike Remmers (back), Evan Baylis (Ankle), Kyle Long (tibia), and Malik Herring (knee) all remained absent from practice on Sunday.

Three players left during the course of practice on Sunday. Demarcus Robinson left practice with an illness. DTs Tyler Clark and Derrick Nnadi also didn’t finish practice. Without Clark and Nnadi the team was short on depth on the interior defensive line. Jarren Reed, Tershawn Wharton and Khalen Saunders were the true DTs with Chris Jones seeing some action on both the edge and inside.

The team will continue their practice week with another session at 9:15 a.m. on Monday as they inch closer toward their first preseason game.
