The Washington Football Team has activated two important players off the team’s Reserve/ COVID-19 list on Thursday.
The team announced that offensive lineman Brandon Scherff and defensive lineman Daron Payne will be back in action:
We have activated the following players from the Reserve/COVID-19 List:
-Brandon Scherff
-Daron Payne— Washington Football Team (@WashingtonNFL) August 5, 2021
On August 1, Payne became the seventh member of the Football Team to land on the COVID-19 list. A day prior, Scherff, who is playing on the franchise tag in 2021, was added to the designation.
Among others that were also on the COVID designation that are expected to be big contributors in 2021 include wide receiver Curtis Samuel, offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas and defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis.
Head coach Ron Rivera opened camp and expressed his frustration on his team’s lower vaccination rate as compared to other teams. Rivera, who underwent treatment for cancer during the season in 2020, is immunocompromised.
Since then, Rivera’s feelings have, at least mildly, improved.
On the same day Payne initially landed on the COVID list, Rivera said he was “very pleased” by how many of his players had decided to take the COVID vaccine on a recent day off the team had.
