Colts’ Darius Leonard recovering from minor ankle procedure

Colts LB Darius Leonard is expected to miss the start of training camp after undergoing ankle surgery in June.

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Darius Leonard underwent a minor ankle procedure this offseason and is likely to miss the start of training camp, general manager Chris Ballard told the media on Monday.

Ballard didn’t seem concerned that this will be a long-term issue for Leonard, who underwent the procedure in June. The fourth-year linebacker was bothered by it during the spring, and the team decided the best approach would be to get it fixed quickly.

Leonard is due for a big contract extension soon. Ballard said this wouldn’t have an impact on those negotiations. It is expected that Leonard will get a contract extension worth more than $19 million annually, which is the current top contract in the linebacker market.

This will be something to watch as the Colts go through training camp, but Ballard didn’t seem concerned that this will be an issue going into the regular season for The Maniac.
