LSU Tigers miss out on five-star linebacker Shawn Murphy

The LSU Tigers received bad news on Sunday as five-star linebacker Shawn Murphy committed to Alabama.

A little bit of bad news on the recruiting front for the LSU Tigers. Their pursuit of 2022 linebacker Shawn Murphy hit a snag on Sunday.

According to On3 Recruiting, the Rivals rated five-star linebacker opted to play for the Tigers’ opposition at the collegiate level. Murphy was down to Alabama, LSU, Florida, Penn State, and Ohio State as his final five school choices. He will head to Tuscaloosa as he committed to Alabama.

The composite four-star linebacker is ranked as the No. 8 linebacker in the country and No. 2 player from the state of Virginia. Overall he was ranked as the No. 66 prospect for the 2022 class.

LSU and Ed Orgeron currently have four-star linebacker from Florida, DeMario Tolan committed to the 2022 class. As far as other top targets, LSU is still in the running for the No. 1 linebacker of the class in Harold Perkins of Cypress, Texas. He is also considering the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies.

There are two other linebackers who hold offers from LSU that could ultimately join the Tigers in the near future. Florida’s Travious Lathan and Pennsylvania’s Abdul Carter, who are both four-star composite recruits.

LSU is still in a good spot with the No. 4 overall class for 2022 with Alabama hot on their tail for the top class in the SEC.
