Houston Rockets and Toyota Center employees participated in a company-wide volunteer day at the Houston Food Bank on Wednesday. General manager Rafael Stone, head coach Stephen Silas, president of business operations Gretchen Sheirr, and owner Paige Fertitta were among those who helped sort donation items and pack food supplies.
The Houston Food Bank is the largest U.S. food bank, with distribution to a network of 1,500 community partners in 18 southeast Texas counties. It provides nutritious meals to food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, and other agencies, feeding over a million people each year.
“I feel extremely blessed to have spent time volunteering along with Rockets staff at the Houston Food Bank,” Fertitta said. “It’s humbling to know that we were able to impact thousands of families faced with food insecurity.”
According to Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston, the team’s volunteer efforts helped create 91,666 meals in the morning shift alone. Many employees returned to also work an afternoon shift, and quite a few (including Stone and Silas) brought members of their families, as well.
“Feels good to do good,” Stone wrote on Twitter. See below for a compilation of photos and videos of their volunteer efforts.
