Cam Akers was poised for a breakout season this year as the Rams’ lead running back, but an Achilles injury suffered while training has caused a major setback. Akers is expected to miss the 2021 season with a torn Achilles, a devastating blow for the second-year back.
As crushing as the news is, Akers remains in great spirits. He shared a message with fans and his supporters on Twitter, thanking them for their messages and prayers. He says he’s in great spirits and plans to be back better than ever.
For a guy who played through an ankle injury late last year, toughness isn’t a question whatsoever.
I just want to thank any and every person sending prayers my way and wishing me well. I hate this happened but I’m in great spirits and I understand God makes no mistakes. I’ll be back better than ever in no time I’m a soldier. Again, thank you 🙏🏾.

In Akers’ place, Darrell Henderson Jr. is likely to step up as the starting running back. He held that role while Akers missed time early in the 2020 season, so he has some experience as a starter in the NFL.
Whenever Akers does return, he should remain a focal point of L.A.’s offense.
