Wisconsin football announced on Tuesday morning that Badgers’ quarterback Graham Mertz was named to the Davey O’Brien Watch List, which is awarded to the best quarterback in college football every season.

Mertz was thrust into the starting role last season after an injury to former Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan in fall camp, and he showed flashes of his potential in a season where the Badgers struggled with injuries and game cancellations.
It is great to see the Overland Park, Kansas, native nominated for such a prestigious award going into only his second year as a starter. With a full offseason to get healthy, Mertz and the Badgers are primed for a bounceback year after an underwhelming 2020 campaign.
