We deserve a Game 7 of the NBA Finals

The Bucks should win tonight… but a Game 7 would be awesome.

This is the online version of our morning newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

I have to start this with stating the obvious – Bucks fans in no way want to see a Game 7 of the NBA Finals. They want to see their team win at home tonight and then celebrate their first title in 50 years by partying in the streets of Milwaukee.

I totally get that and would be completely fine with things if that happened. I think Giannis Antetokounmpo is a legend and a win tonight would free him up to win many more titles. He’s unlike any other player I’ve seen play and I can’t wait to see him get even better in the coming years because he’s only 26 years old and can still add more to his dominant game.

But come on, how great would a Game 7 of the NBA Finals be!!?? It would be really great!

These NBA playoffs have been fun – arenas have been back to being packed with fans and the games have felt the way playoff games are supposed to feel. It’s been awesome.

But the reason why I say we deserve a Game 7 is that we’ve also had to see so many key injuries in the playoffs rob us of a lot of the fun of the playoffs. I’m still not over Trae Young stepping on that ref’s foot or Kawhi Leonard being knocked out with a knee injury. And those are just two of the big names that have missed time in the playoffs.

Some real bummer stuff has happened along the way to tonight’s Game 6.

So what better way to wrap this whole thing up with a positive bow than with a Game 7 at a raucous arena in Phoenix? Though ESPN/ABC could chill out with showing that guy who, for some reason, flashes $100 bills while Giannis is shooting free throws. 8K cameras shouldn’t be wasted on something so lame.

A winner-take-all game for the NBA championship is always a blast. It’s must-see TV. It’s stressful and exciting all at once. And it’s something we haven’t seen since LeBron James and the Cavs beat Steph Curry and Warriors on the road in 2016.

Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and Deandre Ayton vs. Giannis, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday in one game for the ring?

Sign me up!

Though I think the Bucks win tonight.
