IUPUI guard Marcus Burk, a 23-year-old who averaged more than 21 points per game over the last two seasons, worked out with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday, according to a source who spoke to USA TODAY Sports Media Group on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
Burk played two seasons at Campbell before transferring to IUPUI. Over his redshirt junior and senior seasons with the Jaguars, the 6-foot-3 guard posted 21.4 points while shooting 44.9% from the field and 39.3% from 3. He averaged 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Burk was a scorer for IUPUI, reaching 30 points seven times over 50 games for the Jaguars and scoring a career-best 39 in January 2020.
After breaking out in the Horizon League Conference, Burk hopes to find a landing spot in the league. He has a smooth 3-point shot, was able to create his own look and shoot off the dribble in the Horizon League. He also showed some solid moves closer to the post against defenders around his size.
The NBA is a different beast, though, and Burk works out with the intention of showing teams his skill can translate. If the Thunder have interest, expect them to view him as an option to sign as an undrafted free agent or sign to join the G League team.
Oklahoma City has picks No. 6, 16, 18, 34, 36 and 55 in the 2021 NBA draft.
