Overview
Penn State redshirt sophomore is a bit of a homegrown prospect for the Nittany Lions. The former State College Area captain and first-team all-state quarterback stayed as close to home as possible by being a preferred walk-on with the Nittany Lions.
On top of that, Friberg actually flipped his commitment to Penn State after previously committing to Michigan. He would have been a preferred walk-on for the Wolverines as well.
Friberg was a key member of a State College team that went as far as the PIAA state quarterfinals in 2018. In high school, Friberg passed for 2,293 yards and 26 touchdowns that season. But because Penn State was in pretty decent shape at the quarterback position, and because Friberg has the size to play the position, a move to the tight end position was the plan for Friberg at Penn State.
Friberg did not see the field in 2019 as a redshirt player, and he did not see any game action during the 2020 season either. However, off the field, Friberg has been thriving. Friberg was named an Academic All-Big Ten player in 2020.
