29-year old man dies on Notre Dame campus

Sad news from campus over the weekend

A 29-year old South Bend man drowned Friday on Notre Dame’s campus.

According to a University release, the Notre Dame Police Department responded to a call at 7:01 p.m. Friday about a man who climbed a fence and jumped off a pier at St. Joseph’s Lake.

Officers responded within two minutes but could not see the man. Just minutes later the Notre Dame Fire Department arrived at the scene but were also unable to find the man despite searching by boat.

Divers from the South Bend Fire Department ultimately found the body at the bottom of the lake. They performed CPR and transported the man to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s name has not been released and the University does not believe he has any affiliation with Notre Dame.
