The Miami Dolphins’ prized offseason free agent signing this year was one that the team waited on for a few days — you know, just to make sure they got the value right. So when the news dropped that Miami was signing wide receiver Will Fuller to a contract, there was a collective sigh of relief for Dolphins fans who were desperate to see the team upgrade at wide receiver. But, as things currently stand, Fuller is here for a good time — and not necessarily for a long time.
Fuller and the Dolphins came to an agreement on a one-year deal; meaning Fuller could very easily be back in the free agent pool again next offseason and Miami could be back in the market for more speed. Unless, of course, the marriage is a home run that leaves little doubt of the fit. We don’t know if that’s destined to be the case or not, but we can start to shape our expectations thanks to the projected stat line for Fuller this summer.
Here are a handful of projected stat lines for Will Fuller’s 2021 season courtesy of a number of the most popular fantasy services:
Yahoo! Fantasy
Will Fuller – 96 targets, 62.5 receptions, 1,004 receiving yards, 6 receiving touchdowns, 1 fumble lost
ESPN
Will Fuller – 105 targets, 69 receptions, 934 receiving yards, 13.4 yards per reception, 5 receiving touchdowns
CBS Sports
Will Fuller – 114 targets, 80 reception, 984 receiving yards, 12.3 yards per reception, 6 receiving touchdowns
Suppose Fuller does come down to South Florida this season and produces a season that totals right within 1,000 receiving yards. As a player who has never cracked that barrier before (but was destined to before he caught a 6-game suspension for a failed drug test last season), that production would offer Miami a pristine opportunity to try to lock in Fuller in a long-term status. You’d certainly love to see Fuller take on such an opportunity if he can stay healthy and on the field; but each party here appears to be feeling each other out.
This isn’t a grand explosion of production, but Fuller meeting the expectations for literally any of the three fantasy services would mean he’s an essential piece of the puzzle in the passing game and that the Dolphins, under the direction of Tua Tagovailoa, will be sharing the love with the football.
