July 1, 2021 is the beginning of a new era in college athletics.
Starting today, all athletes under the NCAA umbrella (Division I-III) are allowed to receive benefits based off their name, image, and likeness.
Things are about to get very interesting.
This is a topic that has been in discussion over the course of many years.
This new law enables athletes to make money off their athletic talents and swagger through endorsements and deals.
This law also allows athletes to receive free gear and meals when out and about in their tiger get-up.
Athletes used to have to decline any sort of free food from a restaurant or gift from a company due to it being an “unfair” benefit.
As Joe Burrow outlines, this hugely helps every single athlete (scholarship or not) in different ways.

Burrow has built a reputation of always sticking up for those who many times are overlooked, and this is another great example of that.
There are already a host of college athletes from LSU and beyond who have agreed to deals with companies, and it will be interesting to watch the ones that come about in the future as well.
