Five-star 2023 defensive lineman Peter Woods had an unofficial visit at LSU on Saturday. The 6-5 rising junior also checked out Auburn and Clemson earlier in the month.
National recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks compares the high school star to former Michigan DL Rashaun Gary.
“Stout defensive line prospect with potential for personnel flexibility across multiple schemes,” Brooks told 247Sports. “Good height and enough frame space to add more mass. Posted strong freshman production with 54 tackles, 15 TFL, 7 sacks for Alabama 7A state champions. Missed 8 of 14 games as a sophomore but still produced with 30-8-3.5 and returned for 7A state title win.”
Brooks is also impressed by his athleticism for a lineman his size.
“Flashes impressive suddenness and functional athleticism relative to size and age. Displays consistent disengaging ability to shed vs. run. Flashes some pass-rush nuance beyond his years. Athletic enough to be a threat from the backside. Strong at the point of attack and arrives at the ball with conviction.
He projects the five-star to have a long-term football career with college and NFL starting potential.
“Seems like an extremely high-floor prospect with plenty of long-term potential as well. Potential to become a multi-year impact high-major starter with early-round NFL Draft ceiling.”
Woods missed eight of 14 games in 2020 due to a left leg injury, but he returned later in the season just in time to help his team win the Alabama 7A state championship game. He contributed five tackles and one tackle for loss in the win.
According to 247Sports, Woods ranks as Woods ranks as the No. 2 overall prospect in the country, No. 2 defensive lineman nationally and No. 1 prospect in Alabama.
This would be a huge pickup for the Tigers defense if they can land him.
