Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz will be looking to set some new ways with a fresh start, but there are some traditions he is keeping alive. Among them is his annual charity softball game in North Dakota.
Wentz, along with several other former players from North Dakota State, partake in the event to help raise money for his AO1 Foundation. Under the foundation’s umbrella, three initiatives are supported: The Haiti Sports Complex, Thy Kingdom Come Food Truck and the AO1 Foundation’s Sports Program.
Almost 3,000 people were in attendance at the Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo to watch the home run derby and ensuing charity softball game. Former Bison and current San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance was in attendance.
“It’s just fun for the community,” Wentz said. “It’s just fun for all these Bison fans to see some of these guys from the past, and have some fun with it. Doing this, doing the football camp the other night and just being able to, even though it’s quick and I’m in and out, type of thing, but just to get back here is definitely special for me and the foundation definitely enjoys it.”
During his time in Philly, Wentz would hold a similar softball game for charity. It seems they hope to bring the same thing to Indy now that he has arrived.
“We would love to bring it back. Hopefully next year right away,” Wentz said. “Hopefully we can do something fun out there. I know the support we have out here and in Philly, I know it’ll continue once it’s there.”
The Colts still have a month until they return for training camp, and Wentz will be working out with his teammates at some point in July.
