Raiders select QB Spencer Rattler in latest 2022 mock draft

We are just two months away from the college football season starting and it promises to be another exciting year. With stadiums returning to full capacity and several elite teams, this should be one of the best college seasons in recent memory.

One of the top players in the nation is at Oklahoma in quarterback Spencer Rattler. He is currently the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy award as he will play his second season in Lincoln Riley’s spread offense.

In his first season as a starter, Rattler threw for over 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns in just 11 games. He averaged a whopping 9.6 yards per attempt despite being just a redshirt freshman. The expectation is that with a strong year, Rattler could easily be the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft.

In a recent 2022 mock draft by Lorenz Leinweber of Sports Illustrated, he mocked Rattler to the Raiders inside the top-10. Here is what he had to say about the possible selection:

“Jon Gruden will be the first to take a risk on a quarterback in this exercise. Derek Carr is a starting-caliber signal-caller but the Raiders need more flash from the quarterback position and Rattler brings just that.”

If the Raiders wind up picking inside the top-10, it’s not hard to envision Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden looking to upgrade their quarterback situation. However, Derek Carr is coming off the best season of his career and has steadily improved under Gruden

The Raiders don’t appear to be in the quarterback market, but we know that Gruden has a tendency to be fickle. Don’t expect the Raiders to pick a quarterback in Round 1 next year, but keep an eye on Rattler as he should be among the most fun players in college football this season.
