During a recent episode of HBO’s “The Shop: Uninterrupted” that will air on Friday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady didn’t mince words when talking about his free-agent stint back in 2020.
Brady broached the subject of one of his potential suitors that ended up not being interested in him near the end of the process, and from it came an interesting quote from the future Hall of Fame signal-caller.
“One of the teams, they weren’t interested at the very end. I was thinking, ‘you’re sticking with that (expletive)?'” Brady admitted.
Of course, context is important here and it’s hard to get much of it from such a short clip. However, we can make a few educated guesses about who Brady might be talking about here.
There was never anything concrete to back it up, but the Tennessee Titans were one of the teams speculated to be a landing spot for Brady, if for no other reason than his connection with head coach Mike Vrabel.
So, it’s possible he’s talking about Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who was fresh off a career-reviving season in 2019 when Brady hit the open market. Tennessee ended up giving Tannehill an extension the same offseason, sealing the deal that Brady wouldn’t come to Nashville.
Based on what we know about his close relationship with Vrabel, we could totally see Brady saying these exact words to his friend and former teammate, whether jokingly or not.
Another possibility is the San Francisco 49ers. Rumor had it that Brady, who is from the Bay Area, had the Niners as one of his desired landing spots, but the team ultimately stuck with starter Jimmy Garappolo.
We may never know the real answer, whether it’s the Niners, Titans, or some other team, but what we do know is that Brady had the last laugh after winning a Super Bowl in his first season with the Bucs.
