The start of the 2021 Penn State football season is now one week closer as the hot days of summer are upon us. Schools are letting out, vacation plans are being made, and preparation for the return to Beaver Stadium is underway in Happy Valley as Penn State fans have something to look forward to in the fall once again. Penn State football returns in 12 weeks, or 84 days if you are keeping track that way.

There was not a whole lot of news regarding Penn State’s upcoming season to unfold this week. But a pair of former Nittany Lions did make some headlines by signing their rookie NFL contracts. First, former linebacker Micah Parsons signed his rookie contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Days later, Odafe Oweh signed his rookie deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Every Penn State player drafted in the 2021 NFL draft is now officially under contract.

The big story this week was focused on the possible looming expansion of the College Football Playoff. The College Football Playoff released a statement confirming the organization is actively reviewing a proposal for a 12-team playoff format. Recent history would suggest Penn State could be among the schools that would benefit from an expanded field to 12 teams, as the format would have included Penn State in the playoff in multiple seasons since 2016. Penn State would have even received one of the bye weeks in the 2016 season, when Penn State was among the top four-ranked conference champions. Penn State also would have had some interesting matchups with Notre Dame, Baylor, and USC to look forward to.
The uniform matchups alone in some of the hypothetical College Football Playoff games is enough to get uniform enthusiasts excited. And with Penn State having one of the most iconic uniforms in sports, of course, it would be great to see in that situation.
And when you have one of the best looks in all of sports, you better make sure recruits get to try it on when they come to visit. Penn State made that opportunity available as they welcomed back recruits for on-campus visits this month.
