Chiefs launch Norma Hunt Training Camp Fellowship Program

The Chiefs have announced a new diversity and inclusion program.

In addition to changes to the personnel department, the Kansas City Chiefs announced a new program to expand the team’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The Norma Hunt Training Camp Fellowship Program, named after team matriarch Norma Hunt, will help create opportunities for women within NFL front offices by providing them with hands-on experience. They’ll get that experience with the Chiefs’ personnel department.

Here’s a description of what the new fellowship entails via the team’s press release:

“The positions will actively expand NFL front office career opportunities for women by annually hiring female candidates into the club’s personnel department. The Norma Hunt Training Camp Fellowship Program will include exposure in pro and college scouting, free agent tryouts, salary cap and contracts, team operations, player engagement and other departments within football operations.”

The Chiefs also announced the first two members of The Norma Hunt Training Camp Fellowship Program, Madison Aponte and Ashley Smith. They’ll get to experience all walks of the NFL personnel life, from pro and college scouting to contract work and team operations.

It’s not entirely clear how long these positions will last, but the name of the fellowship suggests that they’ll last through the life of Chiefs training camp. I’d expect it to be in a similar capacity to the Bill Walsh Diversity Fellowship.
