Darius Butler has been extremely vocal about his time with the New England Patriots in recent months.
The defensive back spent nine seasons in the league and was drafted by the Patriots, starting off under the tutelage of Bill Belichick for his first two seasons. He clearly appreciated his time in Foxborough after giving this clear and concise idea of what the ‘Patriot Way’ is — following Danny Amendola’s rant about Tom Brady being the ‘Patriot Way’.
Butler joined the Patriots in 2009, when social media was on the rise and becoming relevant in professional sports. He joined the Pat McAfee Show and gave a perfect example of how Belichick has always been aware of his team — despite the fact he acts oblivious to social media.
“I was in my second year, Devin McCourty was in his rookie year, and we were matching up against him and (Terrell Owens),” Butler said, transcribed by Sportscasting.com. “He was talking (expletive) (on Twitter), ‘Ah, you guys going to double me.’ And I’m like, ‘Man, nobody doubled you in two, three years,’ and then Belichick showed me the whole printout Saturday after walkthrough.”
“So, I got fined for ‘conduct detrimental,’ talking about the game plan in typical Bill OG fashion.”
In typical Bill OG fashion, Butler was fined and set the standard for social media riffs among the team — especially when releasing information about the team’s game plan.
