Arizona Cardinals linebacker Isaiah Simmons is the latest NFL player to make a uniform change. He chose to wear No. 48 his rookie season, partially as a nod to Arizona being the 48th state in the country.
But in 2021, he will wear No. 9, according to AZCardinals.com’s Kyle Odegard.
No. 9 was the only single-digit number left unused on the roster after quarterback Cole McDonald was released last week.
No. 8 technically is unused but it is also retired for Hall of Famer Larry Wilson, who was a player, coach and general manager for the team.
Two other Cardinals players also changed numbers.
Receiver Krishawn Hogan also changed his number. He was wearing No. 16 and now has No. 82.
Undrafted rookie tight end Bruno Labelle was No. 82 and now will be one of two players to wear No. 35 in the offseason.
