There isn’t much more to say about the Philadelphia 76ers fan who dumped popcorn on Russell Westbrook as the Washington Wizards star was heading to the locker room due to injury in the Sixers’ Game 2 win.
We all know, that should NEVER, EVER happen, and it’s disgusting that it happened. If you want more? You should read our Andy Nesbitt, who covered all this, including that the NBA needs to ban the fan for life.
There was plenty of reaction to the awful act on Wednesday night, including a tweet from LeBron James, who made a really good point about if the situation was reversed and involved a player doing something similar to a fan:
By the way WE AS THE PLAYERS wanna see who threw that popcorn on Russ while he was leaving the game tonight with a injury!! There’s cameras all over arenas so there’s no excuse! Cause if the 👟 was on the other 🦶🏾.🎥 #ProtectOurPlayers

@russwest44 , you continue to impress . Couldn’t be more happy on how you gained control of yourself under those circumstances. Brings a big smile. Much success to you

Sure, part of me wishes Russell Westbrook could've been allowed to go after the fan who dumped popcorn on him and send a message to all fans: THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. But obviously the law and league won't allow that. So at least the fan was removed and hopefully be banned.

Westbrook is so right. The price of a ticket doesn't give the fan the right to yell whatever the fan wants or to throw food at a player. Westbrook: if that fan had poured popcorn on him in the street, "it would've been different." You better believe it.

Now Westbrook says the fan who poured the popcorn on him was NOT apprehended – that he ran and escaped. Westbrook has even more of an issue here than most players because he's been such a target of such fan line-crossing. I feel for him. These arenas need even more security.

Yes. This absolutely, 1,000 percent can’t happen.
