Another year, another prediction of Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Parris Campbell having a breakout season.
Through a ridiculous amount of injuries in just his first two seasons, Campbell has been fully cleared by the team doctors for the spring workouts. He was most recently working his way back from a torn PCL and MCL that ended his 2020 season after just one game.
With Campbell having a full bill of healthy right now, Bleacher Report predicts the third-year wideout is the best candidate to break out for the Colts in 2021.
Since being drafted in the second round in 2019, Parris Campbell has been a disappointment. The former Ohio State standout missed over half of his rookie season because of several injuries and made it just two games into the 2021 campaign before suffering a season-ending knee setback. All told, Campbell has just 24 career receptions for fewer than 200 yards.
However, as Joel Erickson of the Indy Star reported, Campbell said his knee is 100 percent—and he’s eager to finally show what he’s capable of in the NFL.
“It’s definitely been frustrating,” Campbell said, “but I’m also excited about what’s ahead.”
There’s a reason Campbell was drafted in the second round. In Columbus the 6’0″, 208-pounder with 4.31 speed was a threat to take it to the house every time he touched the ball. He hauled in 90 catches for over 1,000 yards and 12 scores as a senior and drew predraft comparisons to Percy Harvin from Zierlein.
Playing with veteran T.Y. Hilton and youngster Michael Pittman Jr. in a sneaky-good Colts receiving corps, a healthy Campbell should see quite a bit of single coverage.
If that’s the case, the chunk plays will come.
Campbell could carve himself out a big role in the offense. No one on the Colts offense really has a skill set that rivals his speed and vision in the open field, which means he could become a favorite target for Carson Wentz rather quickly. In fact, he and Wentz spent much of the offseason working out together.
The Ohio State product was on our list of potential breakout candidates for the 2021 season.
Campbell’s main objective is to stay healthy now that he’s full-back from his myriad of injuries that have limited him to just nine games in two seasons.
If he can stay healthy, though, Campbell has a chance to break out in 2021.
