Penn State fans don’t need to be told this, but there is nothing quite like a big game atmosphere in Beaver Stadium. Few gameday environments in college football can even come close to comparing. That’s why 247 Sports recently named Penn State’s Beaver Stadium among the best of the best in a ranking of fan atmospheres in college football.
Penn State came just shy of topping the list. That honor went to the LSU Tigers and Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. It’s true, a big game in Tiger Stadium should be on every college football fan’s bucket list. But so should a whiteout game in Beaver Stadium.
Per 247 Sports…
There’s something to be said about the entire stadium joining together for something as simple as clothing, but Nittany Lions fans join together in much more than just that, making for a rowdy environment.
The atmosphere in Beaver Stadium in 2020 was a far cry from the big games of previous years. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the big Ten closed the gates to all Big Ten stadiums, including Penn State’s Beaver Stadium. Empty stadiums struggled to provide the kind of atmosphere that allows college football to thrive, and the lack of a true home-field advantage certainly didn’t help the causes in home games, and losses, to Ohio State, Iowa, and Maryland.
Fans are still waiting and hoping to hear when they may be able to pack Beaver Stadium for a whiteout game again. It could very well be coming this season when Penn State hosts Auburn in Week 3. Penn State has yet to reveal any information about plans for Beaver Stadium during the football season, but the way things continue to be trending suggests fans will be able to look forward to making their way to some games this season. A fun non-conference matchup with the Auburn Tigers is a highlight of the home schedule.
