Anthony Edwards sets Timberwolves rookie record for 20-point games

Edwards produced yet another 20-point game on Thursday, setting a Timberwolves record by a rookie in the process.

On Thursday, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards produced his 34th game of the season with at least 20 points to claim a franchise record during a loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Edwards finished with 29 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots in 39 minutes of work. He converted on 8-of-16 shot attempts from the field, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range in the 114-103 defeat at home.

The performance was his fourth of the season with at least 25 points, five rebounds and five assists.

With his latest effort on Thursday, Edwards surpassed Christian Laettner for the most 20-point games by a rookie in Timberwolves history. His 34 games with at least 20 points are sixth-most since the 2010-11 season; no other rookie has more than 17 this season.

Edwards started off the year a bit uneven, but eventually settled into his role and is playing like perhaps the top rookie to this point of the season. Even more impressive, Edwards is starting to turn in more efficient outings, an area in which he struggled earlier this season.

The No. 1 overall pick is making a strong case for Rookie of the Year, something Karl-Anthony Towns believes he should win. Whether he wins remains to be seen, but it is clear the Timberwolves got a player with elite potential in Edwards.
