The regular season is still months away, and we have no idea how the new campaign will shape up for all 32 teams.
But what if there is someone who knows something already that we don’t know when it comes to the Lombardi Trophy winner for the upcoming season?
A Reddit user by the name of “Herbertstan” made a post that forecasts the Chargers winning Super Bowl LVI. How does he do it? By comparing Los Angeles’ standing to the Buccaneers team that most recently won it all.
Here’s how it goes down:
Tampa Bay finished the 2019 season with a 7-9 record, while the Bolts finished 7-9 in 2020.
The Bucs selected an offensive tackle with the No. 13 overall selection in the 2020 NFL draft, with that being Tristan Wirfs. The Chargers held the No. 13 pick in this year’s draft, where they went on to select an offensive tackle in Rashawn Slater.
In the second-round, Tampa Bay drafted a defensive back who was named after his All-Pro father, with that being Antoine Winfield, Jr. This year, Los Angeles took Asante Samuel, Jr. in Round 2, another son of an NFL great.
Finally, the Buccaneers won the title in Raymond James Stadium, which is their home field. Where will next year’s Super Bowl be held? SoFi Stadium, home of the Chargers and Rams.
Conspiracy theories are to be taken with a large grain of salt, and this is another one that falls under that category. But the person who came up with this hypothesis certainly has a brilliant mind.
Los Angeles has the talent on the roster to make it happen, but only time will tell if it actually comes to fruition.
