In addition to former Sooner teammate Ronnie Perkins, Rhamondre Stevenson will be heading North to the New England Patriots. The Patriots addressed their ground game in the fourth round at pick No. 120 overall in the 2021 NFL draft.
The downhill running back attacks the second level and notched 101 carries for 665 yards and seven touchdowns in six games in 2020 for Oklahoma. Stevenson was an All-Big 12 honorable mention and offensive MVP of the Cotton Bowl. In addition to his rushing stats, Stevenson caught 18 passes for 211 yards.
In New England, he will join Damien Harris and J.J. Taylor. He helps add depth at a position with many question marks for the Patriots. Veterans Brandon Bolden and James White both enter contract years and the team has yet to exercise Sony Michel’s fifth-year option.
Stevenson has very little wasted movement in cuts and was at his best in a zone-blocking scheme in Norman. He will be a valuable three-down backup for the Patriots with promise between the tackles and as a pass-catcher.
