San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York knew his team was at the center of attention for the 2021 NFL draft. And so he decided to lean in.
The 49ers traded three first-round picks, including the 12th overall pick, to move up to third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. They will, of course, take a quarterback. Thing is, no one knows who they’ll take. And to complicate matters even more, San Francisco is reported to have tried to trade for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who doesn’t want to return to Green Bay, per reports. Rodgers thought he’d be a 49er by now, per ESPN’s Trey Wingo. So perhaps the 49ers would send the third overall pick to the Packers.
It’s all wild. And York seems to thrive in the chaos, because he trolled fans by tweeting to stoke the Rodgers trade rumors.
#DraftDay want to apologize for the last tweet. Didn’t mean to offend anyone who tweets nonsense just to promote themself …. wait phone call coming in….. what area code is 920

(Just so you get the joke: 920 is a Wisconsin area code… so, you know, the Packers could’ve been calling. Get it? GET IT?!)
#DraftDay ugh. College buddy calling to say good luck in the draft. Doesn’t he know the draft starts in 8 minutes!!!!!!

It wasn’t the only coded message he sent.
Zac Wilson in college: #1
Trey Lance in college: #5
Mac Jones in college: #10
Aaron Rodgers: #12
Trevor Lawrence in college: #16

York also seemed to address the reports that Kyle Shanahan and the scouting department were at odds over the decision at third overall. Shanahan seemed to want Alabama quarterback Mac Jones and the scouts wanted North Dakota quarterback Trey Lance.
#DraftDay sorry for the hiatus. Found JL & Kyle. Sounds like they’re gonna do #FeatsOfStrength to finalize our plans for tonight. Makes sense after reading how they’ve been at odds….. cuz those guys are NEVER on the same page

Well done, Jed. It’s always good to have someone who isn’t taking this insane event too seriously.
